Know Technology’s Data Center Expands Operations
It’s a busy time at Know Technology’s Data Center in Portland. Servers, Firewalls, Storage and other infrastructure are going in the racks at a rapid pace, reports Tim Barthelman, who heads the Portland KTL office. “Customers are hearing about the security and performance of our Data Center, and opting to move some or all of their in-house infrastructure to our facility.” KTL provides those servers and networks under either Hosting (where Clients use KTL-owned equipment) or Co-Location agreements (where the Client owns the equipment inside the KTL facility).
In either case, clients get access to one of the top five commercial data centers in Maine, says Barthelman. “Our connectivity to the Internet comes via three different Tier 1 providers, with huge bandwidth. Our power is protected with large UPS and generator backup systems, so outages and brown-outs don’t affect us. It’s a level of investment that is difficult for clients to justify for themselves.”
Taylor Pohlman, VP of Managed Services, also cites ease of maintenance and support for the Data Center’s popularity. “With everything in place and monitored, it’s easy for us to perform backups, update systems, or even swap out equipment to keep our customers supported at a low cost”, said Pohlman.
“Probably the biggest factor “, said Barthelman, “ is our ability to give clients choices. Whether it’s local servers, infrastructure in our Data Center, or applications in the ‘Cloud’, we can provide the solution, or even mix them if that’s best”.
